Castillo De San Marcos

Built between 1672-1675 is the oldest masonry fort in the United States. The photograph does not do this justice. This structure is enormous and there is a dry moat around the entire structure which a few times in its history was water-filled. The top overlook (gun deck) is loaded with cannons and is a perfect spot to get an elevated view of the historic town. Inside the courtyard are re-enactors in period dress bearing historical weapons. This is a must-see if you are ever in St. Augustine, Florida. The entrance fee as of January 2020 is $10 per person.
